A Local Coordinator Answers
When you call, you reach a local care coordinator who knows Bucks County — not a national call center. We take the time to understand your situation and recommend the level of care that is genuinely appropriate.
About us
Trusted In-Home Care in Feasterville-Trevose, PA Since 2009
Sake Home Care Group is a locally owned home care provider serving Feasterville-Trevose, Bucks County, and the surrounding Pennsylvania communities. We help older adults stay safe, independent, and comfortable in the homes they already know.
Choosing care for a parent or partner is one of the harder decisions a family makes. We have been doing this in Bucks County since 2009, and we have learned that families are rarely looking for a sales pitch. They are looking for someone local who will listen properly and tell them the truth about what their situation actually needs.
Because we are locally owned rather than a national franchise, the person who answers your call is a care coordinator in your area. They will ask about the daily routine, the health concerns, and the parts your family is finding hardest — and then recommend the level of care that fits, which is sometimes less than families expect.
Our goal is not to take over your loved one's life. It is to provide just enough support so they can carry on enjoying their independence, their routines, and the comfort of home.
What to expect
When you call, you reach a local care coordinator who knows Bucks County — not a national call center. We take the time to understand your situation and recommend the level of care that is genuinely appropriate.
Our caregivers are W-2 employees, not independent contractors. Every one is screened, background checked, trained, insured, bonded, and supervised, so the care your family receives stays consistent.
We would rather tell you that you do not need us yet than sell you hours you will not use. The in-home assessment is free, and there is no obligation to book anything afterwards.
Plans are built around your loved one's routine and adjusted whenever needs change. There are no long-term contracts, and care can often begin within 24–48 hours.
The quality of home care comes down to the caregiver who actually turns up. That is why we employ our caregivers directly and invest in keeping them, rather than treating them as interchangeable contractors.

Family guidance
"I'm fine." Two words that have ended a thousand of these conversations, usually right before something happens that ends the argument for good.
When your mother refuses help, she is very rarely making a claim about her ability to shower safely. She's making a claim about who she is. Accepting help means conceding a decline she is more aware of than you are, and it means her daughter is now in charge. Both of those are genuinely awful, and neither is solved by you producing better evidence.
This is the mistake nearly every family makes: treating refusal as a factual disagreement. You bring the fall, the burnt pan, the unopened mail. She digs in. You've just demonstrated the exact thing she's afraid of — that you're building a case.
Don't ask "do you need help?" — that's a question about identity and the answer is always no. Ask about the day:
"What's the worst part of the day for you right now?"
People answer this one. And they answer it specifically: the stairs at night, the shower, cooking for one, the loneliness between two and five. Every one of those is a solvable problem that doesn't require her to agree she's declining.
A caregiver is a bundle of things: rides, cooking, company, help with the shower. She may reject the bundle and want three of its parts. So sell the parts.
Fathers who "don't need a babysitter" will accept someone who helps with the yard. Mothers who won't hear of personal care will accept a ride to church, because she stopped driving and she misses it. Start there. The relationship forms, trust builds, and personal care follows six weeks later without a single argument — because by then it's not a stranger, it's Denise.
Not fake control — real control. Let her interview the caregiver and say no. Let her set the days. Let her fire them. The whole experience of aging is a long sequence of things being decided for you; handing back genuine authority over one of them changes the emotional shape of the conversation more than any argument will.
"Would you try it for a month, and if you hate it we stop?" is enormously easier to say yes to than a permanent arrangement, and it's honest — we have no contracts, so it costs nothing to be true. Most people don't stop. But being allowed to stop is what let them start.
If nothing else works, try this one, and mean it:
"Do it for me. I'm frightened, and I'm not sleeping."
Many older adults who will not accept help for themselves will accept it to stop their child from worrying. It reframes the whole thing from her being a burden to her doing something for you — which is the role she has had for fifty years and would very much like to keep.
Sometimes safety overrides all of this: active wandering, a stove left on repeatedly, a fall with a serious injury, medication that isn't being taken. If someone is in genuine danger, you act, and you accept that they will be angry. That's a real cost and you should pay it consciously rather than pretend it isn't one.
But that situation is much rarer than the one families are actually in, which is: we have six months of slow worsening and no consensus. In that situation, patience genuinely outperforms force.
The person refusing help is not being difficult. She is losing things, one at a time, and saying no is the last thing she's still able to do. Any approach that doesn't take that seriously will fail, no matter how right you are about the stairs.
If you're stuck on this conversation, call us at (215) 326-9250. Our coordinators have sat in a lot of these living rooms and can help you plan the first one.

Blog
Finding the right in-home care agency can feel overwhelming. Our blog shares practical advice, expert guidance, and helpful information on senior care, home healthcare, dementia care, Alzheimer's care, caregiver support and aging safely at home — written to answer the questions families ask every day.
Family guidance
The quiet warning signs families miss — from unopened mail to a fridge full of expired food. What to look for and what to do next.
Choosing care
The two are routinely confused and the mistake is expensive. The difference comes down to one question: does anything actually happen at night?
Family guidance
Refusal is almost never about the care. It's about control. Here's what works, what backfires, and how to open the conversation.
Call (215) 326-9250. No script, no sales pitch, and we'll tell you if the answer isn't us.
Choosing care
Families are quoted 24-hour care all the time when live-in would do, and the difference can be tens of thousands of dollars a year.
Live-in care is one caregiver who resides in the home. They get a private room, meals, and legally protected sleep and break periods — typically an eight-hour sleep block plus defined breaks during the day. They're present overnight and available for a genuine need, but they are sleeping.
24-hour care is two or three caregivers working awake shifts in rotation — commonly two twelves or three eights. Nobody sleeps on shift. Someone is alert at every hour of the day and night.
That's it. That's the whole distinction, and everything else — the cost, the staffing, the suitability — follows from it.
Live-in care is generally billed as a flat daily rate. 24-hour care is billed by the hour across multiple caregivers, and you're paying for alertness at 4am, which is a genuinely difficult thing to buy. In most markets live-in comes in substantially cheaper — often less than half.
This gap is precisely why the distinction gets blurred. An agency selling you 24-hour care when live-in would do is making considerably more money, and the family usually has no idea there was a cheaper product on the shelf.
Does anything actually happen at night?
Not "could something happen" — something could always happen. Does it? Over the last two weeks, how many nights did your father get up, get confused, need help, try to leave, or fall?
If the answer is zero or close to it, live-in care is almost certainly right. If he's up four times a night, or wandering, or sundowning past midnight, live-in is the wrong product and it will fail — because a caregiver who can't sleep can't work the next day, and the arrangement collapses within a fortnight.
24-hour care is expensive enough that for many families it exceeds the cost of a memory care facility. We'd rather say that out loud than have you discover it at month three. Families choose it anyway — because the person said explicitly they wanted to stay home, because a move would be devastating, because the need is temporary. Those are all good reasons. "Nobody told us live-in existed" is not.
A private bedroom with a door that closes, somewhere for their things, bathroom access and food. Not luxury — just a real space to be off duty in. Live-in arrangements fail most often not because of the caregiver but because there was nowhere for the caregiver to stop working.
Not sure which you need? That's what the free assessment is for. Call (215) 326-9250 and we'll look at the actual nights, not the hypothetical ones.

Family guidance
Nobody gets a phone call announcing that a parent needs help. It arrives as a series of small things you each noticed separately and nobody said out loud.
Most families figure this out at a holiday. You haven't been in the house for three months, you walk in, and the accumulated evidence hits all at once. That's not because things changed in December. It's because decline is gradual enough to be invisible at weekly intervals and obvious at quarterly ones.
Here's what to actually look at.
Unopened envelopes, especially bills, are one of the earliest and most reliable signals. Managing paperwork requires exactly the executive function that goes first. Look for late notices, duplicate payments, and — the serious one — unopened letters from a bank or insurer.
Open it. Expired food that was bought and never eaten means shopping still happens but cooking has stopped. An empty fridge means shopping has stopped too. Condiments and nothing else is the classic pattern, and it usually means every meal is coming from a box.
Loss is the obvious worry, but gain matters too — it often means every meal is processed and convenient. Ask when they last saw a scale. Notice whether the clothes fit the way they used to.
Walk around it. Scrapes on the bumper corners and mirror housings — the classic parking-lot pattern — mean spatial judgment or reaction time has slipped. Ask about it once. If the answer is defensive and vague, that tells you something.
Unwashed hair, the same clothes across a multi-day visit, a smell that wasn't there before. This is almost never laziness. It's usually that bathing has become frightening, difficult or exhausting, and the easier option is to skip it and hope nobody mentions it.
Not messy — messy is a personality. Look for the things that need doing regularly: dishes, laundry, the trash going out, the bathroom. And look for what's been abandoned: the garden they loved, the workshop, the sewing machine with something still in it.
Ask directly about falls. Then ask again differently, because the first answer is usually no. Bruises on forearms and shins, and a new caution on stairs, mean falls are already happening. One in four adults over 65 falls each year and the great majority are never reported to anyone, including the doctor.
Repetition within a single conversation is different from ordinary forgetfulness. So is losing the thread mid-sentence, struggling for common words, or covering with humor. Note it and take it to a doctor — some causes of confusion are entirely treatable, including infections, thyroid problems and medication interactions.
Look at it on a Thursday. Are Monday through Wednesday empty? Are there loose pills in a drawer, expired bottles, two prescriptions from different doctors that shouldn't be taken together? Medication error is one of the most common preventable reasons older adults end up in hospital.
The church they stopped attending, the friends they stopped calling, the lunch that quietly ended. Isolation is a health event, not a lifestyle. It's associated with cognitive decline, depression and cardiovascular disease, and it's the one on this list families most reliably dismiss as unimportant.
Don't announce a decision. Ask a question, and ask it about the thing rather than about them: not "Do you need help?" but "What's the worst part of the day?" People will answer that one honestly, and the answer is usually specific and solvable.
Then start smaller than you think you should. Two hours a week for a ride and some cooking is not a big intervention, and it puts a trained person in the house who will notice the next thing before you do. Nearly every family we work with wishes they'd started earlier. Almost none wish they'd started bigger.
Not sure whether what you're seeing is serious? Call (215) 326-9250. Fifteen minutes on the phone, and we'll tell you honestly whether you need us yet.

Two minutes. A real person reads every one of these, and you'll hear back within two business days either way.
For companion roles, no — we provide paid orientation and training. For hands-on personal care you'll need CHHA or CNA certification. If you're partway there, apply anyway and tell us where you are; we'd rather talk than filter you out on a form.
W-2 employees, every one. That means workers' compensation if you're injured, payroll taxes handled, and liability coverage while you're working. Agencies that classify caregivers as contractors are shifting real risk onto you.
By match, then by geography, then by schedule — in that order. We tell you about the client before you accept, and if the fit isn't right after a visit or two you can say so without it counting against you.
Yes. Part-time, weekends-only, overnights-only and school-hours schedules are all normal here. Tell us your real availability rather than the one you think we want to hear.
Usually one to two weeks — an interview, background and registry checks, references, then orientation. If you're already certified and cleared it can move faster. Call (215) 326-9250 if you need to know sooner.

Caregivers assist with mobility, transfers, and home safety, helping reduce fall risks and keeping seniors safer at home.
Professional caregivers provide dependable support that allows family members to balance work, personal responsibilities, and caregiving without becoming overwhelmed.

My father would not let me help him shower. Not once, not ever. Six weeks in, he'd hold the door for Denise and complain if she was five minutes late. I still don't fully understand how she did it, but I stopped needing to.

Another agency told us my mother needed 24-hour care and quoted accordingly. Sake came out, spent an hour in the house, and said live-in would do — about a third less. They talked themselves out of money in front of me. That's the moment I trusted them, and nothing since has changed my mind.

I'd been doing it alone for two years and I'd have told you I was fine. The first Thursday someone else took the shift I sat in a parking lot and cried for an hour, then went and got a haircut. I've had every Thursday since. It's the reason I'm still standing.

Dad asks where Mom is. She died in 2011. We kept correcting him and kept watching him find out all over again. Their caregiver taught us to ask him how they met instead. He lights up. Same question, completely different day. Nobody had told us that in three years.

Discharge was 4pm on a Friday with about two hours' notice, which I gather is standard. They had someone at the house before he was. Six weeks later he was walking to the mailbox and we'd never been back to the hospital.

I told my daughter I didn't need a babysitter and I meant it. What I got was a fellow who argues with me about the Eagles and drives me to the VFW on Wednesdays. I'm told that's a service. Feels like a friend with a schedule.

Mom wanted to die at home and she was very clear about it. Twenty-four hour care made that possible. Someone was awake at 3am every single night for four months. It was expensive and it was the correct decision and I would make it again.

Early on we were told to start care before we needed it. It sounded like a sales pitch and I ignored it for a year. When we finally started she couldn't take part in choosing anymore. If I could pass on one thing: they were right and I was wrong.

I live four states away. What I get is a text after every shift and a phone call — an actual call — when something needs deciding. It's the first time in years I've slept properly. That's what I'm paying for, and it's worth it.

Every home care agency's website has a wall of five stars, which makes the wall worth roughly nothing. So: ask us for references you can actually call. Ask what our caregiver turnover is. Ask what happens when we can't staff a shift. Ask the last time we told a family not to hire us.
Those answers tell you more than any of the above. Call (215) 326-9250 and ask them.
Tell us what's going on at home. We'll walk you through the options — no cost, no pressure, no obligation to book anything.
